Shang-Chi post-credits scene director explains the Avengers connections

Shang-Chi director explains the Avengers connections from the post-credits scene, The Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently expanding its movie catalog with the franchise’s 25th theatrical release: Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings .

The main character Simu Liu has a chance to become the newest hero in Marvel Avengers Endgame adventure that heavily explored Asian culture within the MCU for the first time. . The plot found a way to bring back old players like Wong, the Abomination , and even Ben Kingsley’s Trevor Slattery as the narrative of the franchise’s first leading Asian superhero progresses.

As is the case with every MCU outing, fans were on the edge of their seats waiting for the in-between and post-credits scenes. that shape what is to come in future movies and TV shows . This time around, the big reveal was seeing Shang-Chi and Katy being greeted into a star-studded chat with Benedict Wong’s Wong, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, and Mark Ruffalo’s dehulkified Bruce Banner discussing the Avengers’ next move.

In a recent interview, the director of Shang-Chi 2021 watch movies gave insight into exactly how these specific Avengers made their way into the movie’s mid-credits scene .

The Avengers gathering again
As one of the final scenes in Avengers Endgame , Bruce Banner was still on Earth assisting Captain America with his final mission, while Captain Marvel seemed to leave the planet in search of more missions in the vast reaches of outer space.

Because both characters are far from the action in Shang-Chi , it was partly an easy task to include them in the story by having them in a virtual call similar to the one at the beginning of Endgame . This allowed the two heroes to give their input on the investigation of the Ten Rings while also keeping their own whereabouts a mystery and setting them up for future Phase 4 outings .

While Cretton’s long-standing relationship with Larson specifically led him to want to include her in the film, she is ready for big stories in the coming year and beyond. There is a slim chance that she will make a Mrs. Marvel cameo on Disney +, though it has been confirmed that she and Iman Vellani will team up on Wonderland , which is slated to deliver another powerful trio late next year.

As for Ruffalo, it has been confirmed that he will play a role in 2022 Ella Hulk . That said, the big surprise came with the fact that he reverted to his human form after conjuring Professor Hulk on their latest team adventure. Hopefully this will be further explained in Tatiana Maslany’s First Solo Project , though Cretton has learned Marvel’s way of keeping its mouth shut regarding future plans.

Considering how unexpected it was for these two to appear alongside Wong, Shang-Chi, and Katy, Marvel Studios delivered another exciting mid-credits scene that established the inclusion of the Kung Fu Master as Avenger. Where those taunts lead remains a mystery, but being part of a threesome with Captain Marvel and the Hulk is exciting enough for now.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is now showing in theaters. Ella Hulk will premiere on Disney + sometime in 2022, while Wonderland is set for its theatrical release on November 11, 2022.

Shang-Chi director talks about Avengers cameos
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton spoke with Variety about the process of developing the film’s mid-credits scene, specifically about how he chose the Avengers who would appear.

While admitting that the post-credits scenes “through so many tweaks and updates” based on everything “developed in other shows and movies,” Cretton revealed that this story was “Depending on what those characters are doing in the MCU.” at the same time.

Considering her tenure in the MCU, Captain Marvel star Brie Larson was one of her first options to include on the Sanctum Sanctorum’s council. However, the biggest question about her appearance was exactly how she would function with Carol Danvers currently in an unknown location in space:

Is Shang-Chi suitable for children? It’s the latest Marvel movie, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings , kid-friendly? It’s been a long time coming, but finally, the MCU is fully leaning towards martial arts, led by a cast of all-Asian dream teams of newcomers, fan favorites, and legendary screen veterans. And although it is rated PG-13, like all Marvel movies, there are a few key points parents may want to know before heading to the movies.

Shang-Chi follows the main character, Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), who ran away from his villainous father and life in China as a teenager and has been living in San Francisco for 10 years. He and his best friend, Katy (Awkwafina), are well living a carefree life of worth expensive cars and karaoke. But when his father’s henchmen show up to attack him, Shang-Chi and Katy, along with their sister, Xialing (Meng’er Zheng), must return to China to confront their father, Wenwu (Tony Leung), aka the Immortal Mandarin and ruler of the Ten Rings criminal organization.

For the most part, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is fine with most kids, but some elements set it apart from other Marvel movies, starting with the fights. Like all PG-13 movies, the fight at Shang-Chi is largely bloodless, graphic in nature well diluted. That said, Shang-Chi has some of the most important fight sequences in the MCU. The entire main cast of Shang-Chi , save for Awkwafina, can really fight, and that translates on screen. Combat sequences framed in the wuxiaThey’re more like fantasy ballets, but the Jackie Chan-style Hong Kong kung fu movie-inspired fights are faster, harder, and more visceral than most of what the MCU has to offer. There is also a flashback scene in which Shang-Chi’s mother, Jiang Li (Fala Chen), is outnumbered in a fight and it is clear that she will lose. Her death is not shown on screen, but there is a shot of her lying on the ground and a young Shang-Chi grieving over what is clearly her corpse. Again, no blood, but there may be some questions down the line from the little ones asking if certain characters are okay.

Other elements that can annoy the most sensitive children occur in the third act when the scene moves to the mythical town of Ta-Lo. It’s all a beautiful, pastel fantasy with soft focus, at least until the final boss in the form of a tentacled monster and his flying demon minions erupt. Kids who have been able to handle other Marvel extra-dimensional creatures in the MCU, like the Abilisk in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 or Loki’s Alioth should be able to handle Shang-Chi.it is very bad. Same with the Abomination in the cage fight scene. But there are times when the flying demons descend and drag the characters away. It doesn’t have blood yet, but the sight of characters being dragged while screaming can scare youngsters or those who get angry more easily.

Lastly, despite its fantasy martial arts trappings, Shang-Chi is, at its core, a movie about a broken family trying to repair itself after a loss. Once again, Jiang Li’s death is not shown on screen, but the aftermath is, and the rest of the film is spent with Shang-Chi, Xialing, and Wenwu, each dealing with their loss in their own way. Everything is beautiful and moving, but parents should potentially be prepared for the questions of children who are a little older and in the phase of asking existential questions, or about death, grief and loss. In general, however, Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings It’s no more adult or violent than any other MCU movie, and most kids should handle it well as they cheer on Marvel’s newest heroes.
